Tuffy was found in a housing track in Modesto CA in March 2004 by a Hispanic Crew doing
Tile work in the homes in progress.  The men looked up and notice the bushes/weeds
moving.  Looking closer they saw a needy puppy cover with fleas and ticks so bad they had
to put gloves on the pick him up.  They placed him in their area on a shirt and later brought
him home to the house next to my home in Richmond, CA.  The wife contacted me to say
she could not keep such a sick puppy, which had been to the vet and had a specimen small
bottle full of ticks removed and treated earlier that day.  So I took him. They called him a
little French fry. But, Today he is Tuffy (short for tough little guy).
He was not very spirited until a week later when we were at the grocery store and he heard
the vehicle next to us speaking Spanish. Man Oh Man, did he come alive.  He knew that
language and then we understood why he was so unresponsive.  He learned English, and
has grown into a wonderful little hunter of the small squirrels and lizards we have in this
area.  He will wait in the shade of something and then run to see if he can get it.  If not,
sometimes he come into the house and takes me out to move a board or pallet for him to
search.  Of course, I will position him on my end before moving the item to give the animal,
etc a chance to escape, while I say “OOPS, it got away, too bad, come, lets go in the house
and get some water”.
Thank you,
