The story of the bull terrier cross named Lucy
Lucy, as we now call her, was named “Scrappydoodle” during her time at CAPS. I had been
searching on line for the “perfect” dog for sometime, reading stories and characteristics of
dogs at various rescues and through PetFinder.com. I had read the description of
“Scrappydoodle” and knew that I had to see her in person (“she thinks everyone should
love her as much as she loves them”). She was past the puppy/teenage phase which is
something I placed high on my list of requirements as I had done the puppy turned to
teenager” thing before with the last dog that we had and was ready for a dog that was
more “mature”.
January 2, 2010 was the day my husband and I went to CAPS and we spent sometime with
this gorgeous and very friendly girl. We were given a briefing on her past, as we were not
the first to adopt her, and then we walked her around the compound. It was love at first
sight and we signed the paperwork and paid the adoption fee that day. The staff was very
generous with allowing us to pick her up the following Saturday, January 9th. This would
give us time to get our home ready and buy the essential doggie supplies so that when she
walked through the front door we were ready to go.
Lucy loves going to doggie day care and cannot contain her excitement when I pull out her
leash. She loves to have her ears and belly rubbed. Her antics continue to amaze and
astonish. There is times when I have to contain the laughter as I correct her behavior (such
as the Jump from the ground directly onto the dining room table). Her youthful antics are
second only to her intelligence and desire to please.
